Amber joined us as a single mother of two determined to create a better life for herself and her children. The fact is that our rigorous performance and attendance standards are challenging for all students, and particularly difficult for those like Amber who are juggling complicated home and parenting responsibilities. However, Amber’s astounding work ethic, dedication, and love for her family kept her going strong. She earned her GED, construction certifications, and a place in the Laborers Union Apprenticeship Program.
Amber tackled many hardships during her apprenticeship years but our career coaches were alongside Amber on all steps of her journey – helping her find solutions to childcare, transportation, budget worries, and workplace challenges she faced as a woman of color in the trades. Today Amber is a proud Journey woman Laborer who inspires us all.
