Building Community, Building Lives
Alexis is an example of someone who found their way at PYB. Alexis says, “PYB gave me a path. Without PYB I had no idea what to do with myself.” While at PYB Alexis was engaged and dedicated. He served on the Student Advisory Board to help lead student activities, spoke at PYB funding events, and completed his GED and all of his necessary certificates in the construction program.
After completing PYB, Alexis worked as a manager at a fast food restaurant to support himself as he continued working with his career coach at PYB to work out a plan for him to get into the Laborers Union. Eventually Alexis’ hard work paid off, and he joined the Laborers Union as a Construction Craft Laborer apprentice, and was hired by Stacy and Witbeck to work the Loowit Park project right away.
Two months after joining the Laborers, Alexis and his girlfriend had their first child, and thanks to Alexis’ union health benefits, he is able to provide top notch healthcare for his family. Alexis is now halfway through his apprenticeship with the Laborers and is loving life. "My case management team always had my back and a plan for me. Now I have my own apartment for my family. My first child is turning one next month and has everything he needs. My girlfriend supports me and both of our families are proud of me. PYB gave me the confidence to pursue this."
